Children are cherished at St John’s, and there are special activities for them during the 9.30am service on Sunday mornings. Through our work with children, young people and families we aim to equip and encourage them in their own spiritual journey and for all to be given the opportunity to experience the love God has for each one of us.
CHILDREN & FAMILIES MINISTER
TRIS PEATTIE is the St John’s Children and Families Minister. This post is jointly funded by St John’s Church and St John’s Meads Church of England School, so Tris spends part of each week working at the school.
SUNDAY CLUB AND OTHER ACTIVITIES AT THE 9.30am SERVICE
Children and young people come into the church with the rest of the congregation for the first 10 minutes of the service. They then divide into three groups according to age:
‘The Big God Space’ (for children aged 5 – 10) takes place in the Jubilee Hall. Each Sunday we look at a Bible story, activities, crafts, songs and have a prayer time.
‘Streetwise’ (for young people aged 11 and over) meets in the Lodge, in the church grounds. This group goes more deeply into the context of what is written in the Bible, what we can learn from it and how to apply it to our lives.
EARLY YEARS LEADER
HANNAH PEATTIE specialises in working with young children at St John’s. This includes the PARENT & TODDLER GROUP, which runs every week on a Thursday in term time, 10.00-11.30am.
As a church, we believe that children and young people are important in the eyes of God, and so we strive to make this statement a reality for each of the children and young people we care for. Watch this video to find out about how we make St John’s a safe place for children and vulnerable adults:
