The Church

Serving the community of Meads, Eastbourne

St John’s is the local Anglican Parish Church in Upper Meads, Eastbourne. We celebrate the Christian faith as revealed to us in the Bible and through the teaching, life, death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. We encourage each other to recognise the work of God in the world, and to live at peace in the newness of life given to us by the Holy Spirit. It is our belief that God is our heavenly Father, and loves all people, therefore we extend a very warm welcome to everyone.

Our pattern of worship includes both traditional and modern liturgies as well as contemporary forms of worship. In our preaching we always try to be relevant and topical as we apply our faith to everyday life.

We welcome children into the life of the church, but also try to provide pastoral care to the older members of our community.

Our Mission Statement

Where we are

St John’s Church is in the heart of Meads, Eastbourne. The parish boundary runs from Beachy Head, along the sea front to South Cliff Avenue, along the middle of Silverdale Road, left along Carlisle Road, along Paradise Drive, up to and including Link Road, then straight along the Downs back to Beachy Head.

The church is in St Johns Road (at the junction with Staveley Road), Eastbourne (postcode: BN20 7ND). There is ample road parking.

Our Church Building

The present church building was dedicated in April 1957, and we celebrated our Golden Jubilee in 2007, when we redecorated the church and made some alterations, including an improved entrance and welcome area at the back of the church.
